In an era of shifting funding priorities, program closures, and questions about the value of the social sciences, sociology departments must be prepared to advocate effectively for their discipline. This workshop will be led by panelists who have successfully engaged in campaigns in defense of sociology programs and sociological research. In small groups, participants will practice necessary skills for advocating, such as how to build coalitions, engage stakeholders, craft compelling narratives about sociology's value, leverage media and public communication, and rally support from students, alumni, and community partners.
